LULU. NOT THERE YET
South East London singer-songwriter LULU. is quietly perseverant on her new single 'Not There Yet'. At just 21-years old, the Nigerian-born artist is already one to watch. Her pot of inspiration is both broad and rich, ranging from Burna Boy to Lauryn Hill to embody the sunlit nature of Afrobeats and neo-soul. As such, the heart of the track is a warm, unhurried cadence infused by LULU.'s Afro-Soul inclinations. The instrumental is defined by light textures; layered percussion woven in with a clement guitar melody to compliment LULU.'s relaxed delivery. Speaking about the track, LULU shares: "Not There Yet’ captures the tension between longing and endurance. As the difficult periods in our lives chip away at our faith you start to question whether the dream is still worth chasing. It’s in these moments we learn to pause, take it all in, and appreciate that while we haven’t yet arrived at our desired destination, we’re still moving forward. This track is a reflection on staying the course and finding meaning in life’s interludes - a moment to reconnect with God and yourself before you step into everything you’ve been working for. So Learn to be patient with yourself, as life inevitably tests and reveals the strength of your character” 'Not Like Us' is a successful reminder to remain grounded in the present, making meaning out of the awkward in-between phases. It's one that you can close your eyes and get lost in, challenging listeners to enjoy the pause. -Kayla Sandiford
